This is a fun website I found recently that sells mid century modern art prints.
They have hundreds of prints from vintage ads of the 50's and 60's.
I was pleased to see one of the Motorola ads by Charles Schridde among them.
Check it out.

THE MUSEUM (AND GIFT SHOP) OF MID-CENTURY ILLUSTRATION

I love the pendant lighting and built ins....
and of course the furniture.
I'm not crazy about the pink hue.
Must have been at sunset.

The turquoise cabinets remind me of Ikea kitchens.
Again, great pendant lighting.
A little too much color going on for my taste
but a fun kitchen none the less.

Must be a special occasion, Dom Perignon and lobster.
Did Don get that raise he's been waiting so long for?
(so get out the champagne flutes and put the martini glasses away!)
This kitchen definitely withstands the test of time.
Love the stainless appliances and the cabinetry.
The island and barstools would be welcomed into my kitchen with open arms.
Check out the hood vent. Love it!

Things I love in this room.....the ceiling, windows, built ins and the game table.

More fabulous pendant lighting.
The hostess is tres elegante.
Love the chairs, however, they do not look very comfortable.

I love the wall of windows.
I think I would have put the cabinetry on the side walls.
The smaller section looks like it's out of place there.
I love big open rooms.
Perhaps an island with barstools would have worked better there.

Wouldn't you love to find this set at a thrift store or estate sale?
I'd design the room around these two pieces.

The chairs, the coffee table, the sectional, the pole lamp,
the area rug.....I'll take all of it.
I remember several of our neighbors in Fremont, California
had indoor brick barbecue grills in the family rooms.
I guess they were rumpus rooms back then.
Look at Johnny grilling the steaks while Jimmy plays the accordion.
Dad should be home from work soon.
These are awesome! Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous examples - great rooms!
ReplyDeleteLove them all! THAT pink room at the top reminds me of Doris Day's appartment in "Pillow Talk" and that blue couch and chair set is to fall for!
ReplyDeleteThe last photo is so funny! A little kid grilling steaks in the indoor bbq pit, his little brother casually playing the accordion (THE ACCORDION???) and I'm sure Dad is just pulling up in the driveway, ready for a martini and a good pipe. Will everything be ready in time? What song will Jimmy play before dinner? One more thing--that big lute on the wall over the dreamy couch. Devoon!
ReplyDeleteaw gee. love them all! makes me want to stalk a grandma house until it's on the market. i am drooling...
ReplyDeleteThe last one is one of my favorites. My husband & I spent an evening trying to figure out how to remodel our home to get a similar layout.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what happened to all of those furnishings? They have to be out there somewhere, waiting for people to love them, right?
The Brown & Silver kitchen, I LOVE it! Those chairs are the bomb-diggity.
ReplyDeleteGosh I haven't been to that website in forever, thanks for reminding me about it and great examples you've posted!
ReplyDeleteTotally diggin the fireplace in the last one. I could roast some marshmallows in it!
ReplyDeletePlan 59 has been a fave of mine for awhile. Isnt it PERFECT? Anyway, I love the post. Also thought I'd say that I read your comment over at Micks and saw that you did "Hello Dolly" in Ketchikan Alaska in the 70's. I lived in Ketchikan during the later 70's until we moved to Sitka Alaska in 79. One of my favorite childhood memories of Ketchikan is walking past "Dollys House" on the boardwalk over the water and peering through the windows at all of the neat vintage stuff. Have you ever been there?
ReplyDeleteps; for some reason I thought I was already following your blog! I am now. Great stuff!
ReplyDelete50sme..I lived in Dolly's house in 1975. I was probably living there when you were peering through the window. Nice to meet someone from Ketchikan. You can read my post from 11/16/09 on Dolly's house. I will post again on it soon.
