PAPER MOTH

I just bought these beautiful prints at etsy from Paper Moth. She has a 2 for 1 sale on now so I bought the top print and the second one was free. I can't pass up a deal. I love the style of these prints. They are so mid-century. She also has a blog at Style Niche Blog. The lamp prints below were on a post back in March. I did not see them for sale and have inquired about them. They really feed my "big ugly lamp" fetish. These prints are anything but big and ugly. I think they are fabulous.

"NOSTALGIA AT ITS BEST!"

Check out Mick's Blog. Don't you just love Mick's outdoor theater? We have a couple of outdoor theaters in our area, but none of them compare to Mick's. His vintage patio chairs are the bomb. Thanks Mick. Looking forward to future posts.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THANKSGIVING DAY PARADES AND MOVIE CLASSICS?

My fondest memory, and an integral part of our Thanksgiving Day tradition, was waking early to view the the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on television. We usually had breakfast while watching the fabulous floats and multi-story high balloons of our favorite cartoon characters.

Later in the day we would watch The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The scene where Tom and Becky Tatcher get lost in the cave always had me sitting at the edge of my chair. I felt so sorry for Tom...he didn't mean to cause trouble, trouble just always seemed to come his way. I loved the end though when Aunt Polly was so happy to see Tom.

Another favorite holiday movie was
Babes in Toyland. The 1936 version starring Laurel and Hardy, also called March of the Wooden Soldiers, is my favorite version. I have to admit though, it scared the heck out of me when I was really young. I was jumping for joy however when the wooden soldiers came marching in to save the day. (You can view it on youtube, I wasn't able to post it here.) The 1961 version starred Annette Funicello, Tommy Sands and my all time favorite Disney actor Ed Wynn. How can you not love Ed Wynn?

I couldn't find any of my favorites on television this Thanksgiving Day. The only parade coverage I found was on one of the morning shows and they were flipping back and forth between the show and a couple of different parades. It was very disappointing. On Christmas day I plan to rent my favorite movies and watch them, in between cooking the turkey and all the fixings. I can't wait!

LOOKING FOR A DREAM JOB?

Become a Hotdogger! You heard right...drive around the country in a wienermobile! Remember my post on the wienermobile? A current hotdogger commented on my post about wienermobiles of the past. Their blog is at hotdoggerblog.com. Hmmmm...I wonder if there is an age limit?

"There are seven wienermobiles in existence currently, with each assigned a part of the country. The hotdogger position of driving the wienermobile is an open position to U.S. citzens and the duration of the job lasts for one full year: from the first of June until the following first of June. Every March at Kraft and Oscar Mayer headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin there are final round interviews held for the hotdogger position. Each vehicle holds two hotdoggers, and twelve people are chosen from a final pool of 30 candidates brought to Oscar Mayer headquarters. The 30 candidates are screened across the country from over an average of 2000 applicants. Both current hotdoggers and Oscar Mayer recruiters visit college campuses across the country in search of the next round of hotdoggers. Only college seniors who are about to graduate are eligible for applying to this hotdogger position. Currently there are about 500 hotdogger alumni who have served as hotdoggers and driven the wienermobile."

More Fabulous Finds For Under Five

Here we go with another quirky collection of fabulous finds for under five dollars.

My husband spotted this cork lamp in a thrift store in a nearby town. Good eye mister!

We found this little pooch at the local Salvation Army. It barks when you pull it.

We love staying at the Sutter Creek Inn. On our last visit, I discovered a beautiful collection of vintage ice buckets. I have wanted one since. This lovely bucket we found at the Red Church Thrift Store for $2.00. I think it is quite stylish.

This brass desk lamp weighs about 5 lbs. The man in line behind me at Salvation Army wanted it bad. Sorry, I'm not that nice.

A nice set of veggie skewers.

A pretty little original oil painting of lovely flowers.

I'm not even sure how to describe this...a bubble sailboat from the 70's. I don't know, you tell me.

Oh I'd Love To Be An Oscar Mayer Wiener!

Thanks dad at Dad's Dish for reminding me of the fantastic wienermobile. I remember clearly seeing the wienermobile cruising past my house when I was a just a young lassie. I wanted so badly to take a cruise in this fabulous machine. I was so thrilled to get a wiener whistle. Come on now, I don't care how health conscious you are, who can resist a good old fashion Oscar Mayer dog?

The wiener pack whistle allowed you to play the whole jingle. I was pretty good at it. One of my many talents.

Wouldn't you love to drive this bad boy around town? It would make a very cool camper.

Recent Finds

I can't resist coffee carafes. I am especially fond of this one. I love the design on the carafe and the cool handle.

Way too pretty for an ashtray.

I couldn't resist for 50 cents.

I saw one of these on etsy. What do you suppose it is? We use it for cell phone chargers and keys. The little dish was purchased separately.

This coffee table was another Waste Management find. I LOVE that place.

I also found this original oil painting by Carlo of Hollywood at WM. I paid $5.00 for it. I have seen them for sale on the internet for several hundred dollars. I have not seen one that has sold however. There is a web page about the artist. It doesn't really matter how much it's worth because we have gotten our five dollars worth just staring at the painting and trying to figure out what it is. It is growing on me.

Dancing Max

This has nothing to do with midcentury anything, but we think it is pretty darn funny. What can I say? The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His dad is not much of a dancer either. I, on the other hand, am a real Ginger Rogers. My son did this video several years ago in his high school film class. It still cracks us up.

Bad Bad Folgers Coffee

Will someone please slap this man into tomorrow? I'm not a fan of Folgers Coffee, but if I liked bad coffee, I still wouldn't buy Folgers. We've come a long way baby! Well, sort of.

Aftershave? ABSOLUTELY!

Sorry for the short post today ladies (and gents). I'm off to the Five and Dime to buy my husband some Noxzema Comfort shave. Maybe some Mennen's, Old Spice and Hai Karate too! Oh yeah....

The Daily Whine #1

Daily whine #1 in a long line of whines to come. My hair is straight, thin and lacks body. That is not my whine however. This is my whine.....whine #1. Every morning while using my curling iron, trying to make my hair look like something it is not and never will be, the cord to my curling iron gets hung up on the drawer knob. Not a big deal right? Well it shouldn't be except that I never realize that it's hung up and keep pulling on the cord and getting more and more annoyed until I realize what's happening and unhook it from the drawer knob. EVERY MORNING I relive this same scenario. Occasionally I yank so hard on the cord it unhooks with a jerk and I brand my forehead, cheek, neck, you name it, I've scorched it. Pavlov's dogs learned, why can't I? At this point I begin cursing curling irons and the fools that invented them then move on to the morons that decided hair should have curls and body. And let's not forget Twiggy who pushed Annette Funicello off magazine covers and made us all think that pencil thin was in....THANK YOU VERY MUCH TWIGGY!!!! So hair should be all curvy and full of body but our bodies should be STRAIGHT AS A BOARD??? HOW DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE??? Well, by this time, I've worked myself into a sweat and any semblance of a curl or wave in my hair has disappeared and I'm back to square one. So there you have it...Daily Whine #1. I always finish my morning rant with a little "Let's be grateful for what we have cheer". It could be worse. Much worse.

Remember trying to sleep on these?

The Incredible Perm Machine. Thankfully before my time!

Okay, I'm throwing the curling iron away and I'm going to buy some good old self styling Adorn Spray and some Super Clips! Problem solved.
