Julius Shulman, Visual Acoustics

This weekend we watched a beautiful documentary on Julius Shulman. What can I say except that I love this man and am so very greatful to him for capturing the essence of midcentury modern architecture.
"Visual Acoustics celebrates the life and career of Julius Shulman, the world's greatest architectural photographer, whose images brought modern architecture to the American mainstream. Shulman, who passed away this year, captured the work of nearly every modern and progressive architect since the 1930s including Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry. His images epitomized the singular beauty of Southern California's modernist movement and brought its iconic structures to the attention of the general public. This unique film is both a testament to the evolution of modern architecture and a joyful portrait of the magnetic, whip-smart gentleman who chronicled it with his unforgettable images." Midcentury Marvels

I subscribed to Atomic Ranch magazine recently and received my first copy yesterday. If you love midcentury modern, you'll love this magazine. I'm going to buy all the available back issues. The articles and pictures are great but I love the advertisements as well. I wish it were a monthly magazine instead of quarterly however. I can't wait for the next issue!

"Atomic Ranch celebrates midcentury houses—from 1940s ranch tracts to 1960s architect-designed modernist homes. With an emphasis on affordable solutions and homeowner renovations, our quarterly magazine shows you how to make your house cool, both inside and out." Atomic Ranch Magazine

There Goes The Neighborhood

We signed the papers on the property yesterday and set up camp today. One of the neighbors was walking his dog as we cruised into the neighborhood with our trailer(s) in tow. Can you imagine what he must have been thinking?

Where's the flamingos?
There goes the neighborhood.

Thanks for letting me brag...

My youngest son graduated this past Friday. I don't brag about my kids very often because they hate it when I do. (or at least they claim to) But indulge me this one time....I was/am a very proud mom. Will was the salutatorian of his class and graduated with honors. When he gave his speech I thought my heart would just burst. The thing I love most about him though, is not so much his academic accomplishments, but that he is one of the kindest and most compassionate people I have ever known. Okay, that's all. Thanks for letting me brag.

Four In A Bed...Too Many!

Our cats have decided our bed is their bed. We battle for the best spot at night, they usually win. Do you think if they had their own beds, they'd use them? This bed is a little too cramped with four.

Perhaps if we offered them something a little more mod, a little more sophisticated. Take a look at the oh so cool beds at Like Kittysville.

Here's a hot setup for your pooch pal from Vintage Renaissance at Etsy.
Love those legs.

TIME FOR A CELEBRATION!

I hit the big 100! Grab your favorite beverage and join me in a little celebration....

(I'm pretty sure Christine dated one of these guys.)
I know your dancing!!

Enjoy and thanks for joining me in my blogging journey.
It's been a blast. Really!
Here's another one for good measure.

Dollar Treats

I found these goodies for a dollar each at a neighborhood yard sale. I know, I know....I said I wasn't going to do this anymore, but I did it anyway. I couldn't pass up this cool fondue pot.

Or these little birds.
Or this oil painting. Come on....$1.00!

RELAX, I'm not in jail...

We returned to the (crime) scene today and liberated** the table. Okay, so I made my husband grab the table and throw it in the back of the car while I kept the motor running . And seriously, it most likely would have rotted in that funky trailer. I'm not sure but I think I heard a "thank you" coming from the back of the car as we drove away.

It's a happy little table now and is enjoying the view from where it sits.

**thanks Perry...."liberated" sounds much better than "absconded with".

We've Hit An All Time Low....

I know many of you will relate to this. As you may remember, I'm trying to stay away from the thrift stores. All those little purchases add up. However, dumpsters, curbside throw aways, and abandoned trailers are all fair game.Yesterday my husband and I stopped along the roadside to check out this cool vintage trailer and Shasta boat.Very nice little runabout. Needs work... lots of work.
The outside of the trailer is in pretty decent shape. The inside however, pretty nasty.
What I spotted inside, not so nasty. See this pretty little slat table with brass feet? Nice, very nice. I wanted to grab it right then but my husband said it would be stealing.
The lot that this stuff is on is covered in garbage but has a for sale sign. I called the realtor and she said she has a list of about 10 people that want the trailer....I tried to explain that I didn't want the trailer, just the table inside. She was a little rude. We left.

I can't stop thinking about the table. I'm going back for it now. If you don't hear from me for awhile, it's because I'm in jail.

Modern Furniture

....okay, I'm a huge fan of modern furniture, but the following items, not so much.

Pretty colors, yes. Comfort, no.

Let's face it...these are a bit creepy.

I think falling off your bar stool sums these up.
It wouldn't even require an alcoholic beverage.

Might feel a little lumpy, don't you think?

I'd feel like I was in the psychiatrist's office.

What would you call this? A ribcage table? A fish bone table? No thanks.

Sitting on butterflies would just feel wrong!

I wonder if my bum would even fit in this flower.
And where exactly do your legs go?
Straddling the petals....in a dress....? Not good.

This may have pretty lines, but I think it would be
pretty darn uncomfortable.
This is just all wrong.
What the heck is he covering up??

This is the mother of all couches.
Doesn't it just say lay back and relax?
NO! It says sit up straight!
By the way....Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there.

Cool Coffee Tables

I only need one coffee table, but if any of these lovelies turned up in a thrift store, I'd have to make it mine.
