or
Our Anniversary Trip....
the beginning.
It started with coffee by the fire,
a beautiful morning
and a soak in the tub.
Then we hit the road.
Our destination,
Volcano, California.
Population 103.
Along the way we stopped at
our favorite spot,
The Pickle Patch Deli.
We had lunch with the flamingos.
The Christmas decor was still up,
Barbie tree and all.
This was our first visit to
We checked into the Inn
and took a stroll through town.
We fell in love.
The St. George Hotel
is at the opposite end of town.
This beautiful cottage was part of the
hotel at one time.
It sits at the river's edge.
I could live here.
Here is the Volcano telecommunications office,
serving the greater Volcano area.
During the summer months
The Volcano Theater Company
performs at this lovely amphitheater.
This is the general store/pub/library.
General Store side.
Library corner.
The pub side.
We closed the pub down.
Sally yelled out "Last Call" and
the locals picked up there mugs,
deposited them on the bar,
and made haste for the door.
The owner turned to us and said,
"You don't want to make Sally mad."
It was 6 p.m. and sally wanted
to go home.
That was it.
The sidewalks rolled up.
Lights went out.
Everybody went home.
We returned to our cozy retreat.
The motto of the Inn.
On Tuesday nights in Volcano
you're on your own in the culinary department.
The innkeeper informed of this in advance
so we brought our own picnic dinner;
Rosemary garlic bread, olives,
assorted cheeses and meats, wine and chocolate.
Epicurean heaven!
We had the diningroom all to ourselves.
We enjoyed several games of shuffleboard.
We're pros now.
The mister hit a couple of bullseyes.
I was lucky to hit the board.
It was a perfect day.
Time to retire.
Okay - I realize it would have been completely inappropriate, especially since it was your anniversary and all - but I really wish I'd been there !!

What neat pictures! Looks like a great trip. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this... it started my day with the feeling that there is still a lot of good folks and wonderful places all over if we just open our eyes to them.
ReplyDeleteAs a small town girl, it makes me want to highlight places like Volcano around Ky in my vintage blog.
It's so refreshing to see trees, hills, and country people. All we have here is drag queens, graffti, and Hollywood types. I have to go to Volcano. It really looks charming (i'm serious) Thanks
