Today was the first burn day of the season.
We thought this might be a way to make friends with the new neighbors.
First we smoke them out...
(warning; Don't click on the pictures to enlarge them or
James will quit singing and it ruins the whole effect.)
Then we'll show them our new septic system.
Brand new. Never been used.
I think they'll be impressed.
Don't you?
I love the shade of green we chose for the cover.
It blends well with the landscape.
Then we'd brag a little about our water meter.
We went with the industrial look .
We think it looks edgy.
What do you think?
We've only had a couple rains but things are really greening up.
Waiting for the neighbors to gather 'round.
Hello neighbors!
Come on out..
we know you're in there!
Alright, never mind with the smoke signals.
Fire that baby up!
Son2 waiting to meet some playmates.
That doesn't sound quite right.
Okay...who's watching the fire?
Um...guys...the windows on the Aloha are melting.
Nobody came out to play...and we are very happy about that.
This was a test.
When we try to burn brush over at our senior house,
the neighbors dial 911 before a match ever hits the brush.
They sit on their porch and watch us.
Phone in hand , waiting for one wrong move.
I love our new neighborhood.
We didn't meet any neighbors today,
but we got to know them.
There were no calls to the fire dept.
No calls to environmental health.
They are the kind of neighbors we were hoping for.
Jamie - I absolutely LOVED this post!! The combination of James Taylor singing a beautiful song, the pictures, and your sense of humor that I ADORE - perfection!
ReplyDeleteGreat! We'd get arrested if we did that in Australia! Nothing like a good burn, though.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed meeting your neighbours. Love your work everytime, MCM! Don't think I've seen Son #2.
Thanks ladies. Yes MMMC, son #2 likes to blend into the background. Both sons are not big on having their picture taken. I don't know where they get that.
ReplyDeleteThis was a perfectly fine way to meet the neighbors! I had a similar incident when we first moved to the country - went out to burn leaves (silly city girl), the wind picked up after I started and I ended up burning off nearly 1.5 acres of leaf covered timber. I met the neighbor and the volunteer firefighters, too! I don't do anymore burning.

ReplyDeleteHT...I am so paranoid about starting a fire. We had a little incident when the boys were young, involving matches, volunteer firefighters, family fire counseling session...I feel your pain.
ReplyDeleteMary! Hey! Tell Russ when you two come for a visit we'll have a big ol' bonfire...s'mores and all. Miss you.
Hey Jamie, We have fire ring and all. Nuthin like an outdoor burn to bring out the neighbors. I have about as many as you do.
ReplyDeleteThis is great work you have done here. Tell Fred hello for me.
Hey Norma! You fancy thing you...a fire ring? Okay now, give us time. Great hearing from you. We'll have a toast to you when Fred gets here.
ReplyDeleteThankks for a great read
