Shag carpets have improved since the 70's. Remember when you didn't vacuum shag? You raked it. I have ripped out pea green shag carpet from homes we have purchased in the past similar to this....
(not the look I'm going for!)

Now I'm thinking I would love nothing better than a very large white shag area rug in front of a very large fireplace. Heaven...
I'm loving the look of these too, I had a great one a few months ago (that I found for $10) and sold quickly, of course, after the fact, I thought about how much better it would have suited my taste than the oriental rug there now.
ReplyDeleteMust warn you though, unless you get an expensive one, they do mat down...I know, I have one...
ReplyDeleteDo you know what shag means in Australia? You might get sensored for your post title! Love it!

Yeah Chicken...Austin Powers clued me in on that one. I'll plead ignorance though!
ReplyDeletemy 4 ikea rugs may look nice in that photo but in real life not so nice. If only I could afford a really nice one!
ReplyDeleteThat second to last picture in your post just SO totally looks like exactly what you like and epitomizes the living room I picture for you. Pretty fabulous.
ReplyDeleteMiss you.
I thought that was your house Jenn and I do remember reading about your 4 rugs(Apt Therapy?). It is such a fabulous room.
ReplyDeleteWall-to-Wall lime green shag, baby! I ripped up yards & yards of that stuff in my first house. I much prefer the fluffy white area shags too. Shagadelic!
ReplyDeleteWhite shag... beautiful, glamorous, very high style! I probably can't manage that look in this life time but I really like it! MY MIL had grass green shag in her house and ironically it still looked pretty fresh even after 30 years.
ReplyDeleteMy house has the original '70s sh*g carpet and I HATE IT. I believe I've expounded already on the fact that I HATE IT. Oh, did I tell you that I HATE sh*g carpet? However, that yellow couch is pretty damn incredible. Just take away that sh*g carpet and I could live there and die happy. Did you notice how G-rated my comment was? Sh*g-a-licious, baybee!
ReplyDeleteI vividly remember my grandparent's shag carpet...pea green with random yellow and orange yarn throughout. *shudders* it was not pretty. The ones you posted, however? Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWe too felt the undeniable draw toward the shag carpet... but since we have a large space, we found them to be way out of our budget. My wife came up with the brilliant idea of buying 4 smaller brownish shag rugs (not so expensive at our local home store) and duct-taping them together underneath. The shag fibers do a great job of hiding the seams and almost 2 years later, while they do show some signs of wear in the higher traffic areas, they seem to be holding up pretty good.

these looked so good!
ReplyDeleteShag carpets are really cool and beautiful! And it's really nice to put some of those during this time of the year. It will really make you feel so warm and cozy, that you just might wanna lay there the whole day. But we must always keep it in mind that we must do regular carpet cleaning all the time. In St Petersburg, carpet cleaning are great and affordable. They offer better services and they make sure that your rugs are more beautiful than ever after they cleaned it.
