King of the Road

Written by Roger Miller in 1964

In 1964 ...
this 18 ft. KenCraft travel trailer
was King of the Road.
It was free on craigslist.

Come on out KC!
Don't be shy.

I had serious reservations.

It's been home to many mice for many moons....

I tried to back away, slowly...

But the Mister and the Boy
were already hitching her up.
They keep reminding me of how disgusting
The Scamp and The Aloha were.

It does have possibilities.

The appliances are in great shape.

I do love the mod room divider.

And the painted copper tile.

Okay, it's growing on me.

Did I tell you we also bought a 35 ft. fifth wheel trailer?
And did I tell you we are going to
live in it while we build our house?
And did I tell you
I'm still getting used to the idea?

We're returning to our hippie roots.

I probably need to go buy some tie dye T-shirts
and start listening to Joan Baez again.

Think I need to go Chug-a-lug.

  1. I ADORE Roger Miller - both of those songs - I mean, he even says Heidi Ho in one of them!
I have wanted an old trailer for a long time, and I am extremely envious of yours.
    I want to see them.
    All of them.
    Soon.
Wanna listen to Joni Mitchell instead? I was just listening to her on a CD yesterday.......
My only Joan Baez is a Christmas LP.

  2. Free? FREE? FREE!!!! Glad the guys hooked up without thinking twice! That's got great bones and some nice features, I really like that corner kitchen, and the fridge is a nice size too. Please post more about this camper as things develop.

  3. Ahhhh!!! With a little work it will be GORGEOUS! I love the yellow sink and tiles, how refreshing and happy! The windows and the layout of your trailer is just LLLLLLLLLLLLOVELY!
I would have been the one trying to hitch that up... my husband would have been the one with the reservations. ;)

I could do with a disgusting scamp! LOL I look at RV ads weekly the only free stuff they have around these parts atm is usually rotten and moldy. lol

  4. What a find! And what a great post! I was already laughing, but when you got to the Joan Baez part, I almost snorted...and I'm still chuckling, even as I type this.

  6. Free? How the heck does that happen?
It's adorable! That starburst is the coolest, is it a light fixture?
Very jealous of your growing compound!

  10. I keep seeing trailers like this in roadside car lots and am just dying to stop, but I'm sure my husband wouldn't be as indulgent as yours since we have a monster 20 footer. But I WANT a cute little oldie like you have. Waaaaaaah!

  11. Well shoot! You are starting your own lil' trailer village up there aren't you! I really like this one! I really really like the free part. One of my junkin' mottos is "You don't ask questions when its FREE!" I'm glad you brought her home. It is so darn spacious in there! I have never seen a kitty korner sink like that in a trailer. I HEART IT!
