North To Alaska

Thanks to my sister and brother-in-law
for a wonderful time.

Hello Mr. Marmot.

My sister has a green thumb.

Alaskans know how to grow things.
This giant cabbage was in downtown Anchorage.

Thanks to my brother-in-law for
catching and preparing the salmon.
It was superb!

Copper River red salmon gravlax.
Dill-i-cious!

Caviar. WOW. Yes, he made that too.
It was served with bellinis (small buckwheat cakes)
and a dab of sour cream.
Heavenly!

Oysters ready to go into the oven.

Oysters on the half shell,
with sweet potato fries
and sourdough toast.

Enjoyed on the deck,
in Homer,
in 70 degree weather...
and lots of wine.
Somebody pinch me!

I read this book during my visit.
Heather Lende really captures the essence
of life in rural Alaska.
It brought back many memories
of life in Ketchikan, Alaska in the 70's.

  1. Wow! What a trip. How wonderful that you have someone to stay with.
This brings back memories or our trip a few years back only we were on a ship.
Isn't Alaska the most beautiful place. It's so wild.
I want to go back again. I would love to live through a winter in Skagway. I fell in love with the town... It's history and it's beauty. Want to see it when there is no one there and the wind is blowing snow across the mountains.
Your photos are lovely. Those oysters make my mouth water.

I did wonder where you'd gotten to. It looks lovely and colourfully wild in Alaska.
