Eichler is King

Joseph Eichler was a post-war residential real estate developer who was king of the modernist style. He was a social visionary who designed affordable homes for middle class Americans. Eichler resigned from the National Association of Home Builders when they refused to support a non-discrimination policy. He offered homes to anyone of any religion or race believing diversity was key. I love the clean lines, walls of windows and the post and beam
construction typical of his architecture. When did we as a culture decide that bigger is better? Eichler homes were modest in size, typically between 1200 and 1500 square feet. He was the pioneer of affordable housing. We have much to learn from Eichler's philosophy; less is more, diversity is key, affordability is everything.

  1. lovely and such simple words to describe such a visionary...i was born in india and almost into the 80's..but having been a fan of every architect/designer who worked to make homes affordable...i really miss seeing any ranch style/atomic kind of homes in atlanta..i hate to see multi level victorian homes being built ..they are such a waste on resources..:(
