Empty Nesters

It's hard to believe that our youngest is moving out.
Yes, we will be empty nesters in one week. Wow!

He found a studio apartment downtown in a historic building.
Historic sounds better than old.
His older (historic) brother lives four doors down.
Same building.

As you can imagine, all sorts of emotions are rearing their ugly,
(and not-so-ugly) heads.

I'm designing pallet furniture in my head.
(and finding all kinds of pallet beauties on Pinterest.)

Pallet Bed

It's time to put my sweet designer skills to work.
(to take my mind off the fact that I'm historic.)

It's my duty as his mother.
He's a little less enthusiastic.

I can't help myself.
Do you love this pallet coffee table?

The studio is very light and airy.

And very, very small.

On a positive note...it has an atrium.
Not quite this large.

Mom and Dad come to visit....hello son!

I can't believe it.
He's not my baby anymore.

I don't think he's ever forgiven me for cutting his hair.

  1. Empty nesters? Wow - I can't believe it, either. I would LOVE to see his new place!! Do you suppose he would allow that?

  2. My daughter moved into her own place when she was 19, so I've been an empty-nester for 15 years. Now that we're combining nests, it's a whole new experience.

I know it's sad to see your last one move out, but you're going to have so much fun helping him decorate...and having mom and dad alone-time. Be sure to show us what you make!

    1. You've come full circle Dana. I can't wait to see your new space! Yes indeed...mom and dad time is long overdue. It's still hard though. We'll figure it all out.

  3. I can't even imagine the mixed emotions! What will you do with yourselves?! I like the look of your pallet furniture ideas. Of course it's your duty to see that he's established furniture and design-wise. I don't want my children to leave home ... maybe once I've seen them as teenagers, I might change my mind.

    1. Six months ago I couldn't imagine him leaving home. Knowing that he's five minutes away, and still working weekends at our senior home makes it so much easier to accept. And what will we do with ourselves?? Imagine the possibilities! I think being empty nesters is not such a bad thing after all. Hug your babies MMMC...your time will come...and you'll know just what to do.

  4. I like that you are decorating his place. Good idea! I doubt my son would allow it since he gets touchy about me picking up his room. Ah well.

  5. I think it's so sweet that you're helping him decorate...but I would be very careful with pallet furniture. Make sure the pallets are newer and not treated. I know it's very popular right now, but it's not the safest. A friend of mine got arsnic poisoning from using old pallets that were pressure treated. Be very careful what pallets you use if you decide to do that, for your safety and your sons.
